Spring cleaning is an opportunity to lighten your load and make space for what matters. A chance to refresh our homes and our minds. While Spring cleaning isn’t anywhere on my list of favorite things, it is on my “do it because it’s good for you” list. And sometimes, that’s where we have to start. This year, let’s look at the benefits and use that, along with the tips and checklist included in this post, to help us get through the task and focus on the new opportunities it brings.

Benefits of Spring Cleaning
Seasonal cleaning is about more than just dusting off the cobwebs, it’s about creating space for what really matters. Home is where we can be our authentic selves and a place where we are free from judgment and outside influences. It’s a chance to nurture the self, to rest and recover, to find peace in the chaos of life.
As busy women, we can use all the breaks from the chaos of life that we can possibly get. Spring cleaning gives us a chance to sort through the clutter that has built up in our homes and rid ourselves of some of the chaos. We all have it. Add in a husband, kids, working from home, homeschooling, and forget about having a home that is always in pristine condition.
Since we are pulled in so many directions, taking the time to deep clean seasonally has major perks. A good Spring cleaning will help you declutter your home and make more room for the things you actually use (and like). You’ll be amazed by how much stuff we have that we just don’t need anymore – or even worse, we don’t even know where it is! A good cleaning session will help you find everything that you haven’t used in months and throw it out – or donate it if it’s still usable.
Deep cleaning can also help you feel more relaxed in your space and allow you to have a better sense of control in your life. When there is clutter and disarray around, you can’t relax and enjoy yourself. Things like dirty dishes in the sink or clothes laying all over the floor can be stressful to look at, even for those who don’t have a problem with clutter. Once you get things cleaned up, you will be amazed at how much better you feel. Similarly, once your home is clean, you will feel like things are under control and you can handle anything that comes your way.
Spring Cleaning Tips
That all sounds great, right? But where do we start? If you’re like me, looking at the big picture can be a bit stressful. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the clutter in your home, break it down into smaller tasks. Start with one room or one storage area per day or hour. Then focus on one section within that — for example, your sock drawer — and only do that until it’s done. I have total “squirrel syndrome” and if I’m not focusing on one task, I’ll multitask to the point of no return – and no completion. Once you have successfully organized one small space, you will feel energized and motivated to tackle another area with ease.
Some of my favorite tips for seasonal cleaning I’ve learned so far are to –
- Make a Plan: Plan when and where you’re going to get started and get clear on your goals. Are you spring cleaning to be more organized, to disinfect after cold/flu season, etc?
- Declutter before you clean: Yes, it’s an added step but you cleaning “around the mess” isn’t really cleaning…
- Clean from top to bottom – again, I’m easily distracted. Cleaning from top to bottom, left to right helps me find where I left off if (more like when) I’m interrupted.
- Only keep what you need and actually use .
- Don’t try to do it alone, or all in one day.

With everything that goes into daily life, it can be easy to let deep cleaning fall to the wayside. Between carpools, social events, household chores, and even just hanging out with friends and family, it sometimes seems like there is no time for anything else. But, during these warm and beautiful days of the year, it’s worthwhile to spend a little extra time making your home feel like home. It will save you time in the long run and increase your overall quality of life.
