Fall is one of my favorite seasons of the year. I love the apple, cinnamon, pumpkin scents, the shift in the air, and the fact that I can almost get away with wearing a pair of cute boots without looking like a maniac. (*I live in Florida, so I cling to every chance to wear boots knowing that I’ll only have two half-days where they are actually needed…)I also love all of the color changes that occur with Fall. Recently, I looked around my closet and began putting outfits together in my mind utilizing fall colors—this golden-yellow sweater with these black tights or maybe this burnt orange maxi skirt with this t-shirt. I also may or may not have been looking for an excuse to go shopping…
Here are a few tips to keep in mind when styling your fall colors.
The Basics of Fall Colors
Fall fashion, to me personally, is about utilizing colors that are naturally occurring in nature. Think of the leaves changing to shades of orange, yellow, brown, red, etc. These are the staple colors of Fall. You’ll see these colors outside, in seasonal decor, and I like to duplicate them in my outfits. Now that you have your staple colors build your outfit with complementary neutral colors such as black, beige, gray, navy, etc. I prefer a darker color palette overall for Fall for the ultimate classic/sexy look. Current trends have made a bold turn, and designers are beginning to include bright, bold colors in their fall fashion lines. So while I prefer the darker, more traditional colors, you’re not wrong to be tempted by some of the purple and teal sweaters you’ll see on display this season. Floral prints are also showing up more in fall styles.
Dress for the Weather
Fall is typically the time of year where the weather is taking a cooler shift, and you want to be sure you’re dressing in a way that agrees with the weather where you are, not just the ongoing trends. For example, as much as I absolutely LOVE the cute 2-piece sweater outfits like this, it wouldn’t make sense for me to prepare a similar outfit when it’s 85 degrees before 10’am, where I live. Now, for someone say in a more northern state, Fall would be the perfect time to begin layering, and they may be able to style this and not suffer from a heat stroke. This is yet another reason why I love adhering to the classic fall trends. I can always change my color scheme with my calendar, even when my weather doesn’t change.
Choose Your Style Over Everything
Designers are saying it’s time for a change while I’m holding tightly to my traditional style. No matter what, always choose your style over anything. Dress for yourself. As long as you’re comfortable with your style and happy with the way you look, that’s all that truly matters. No matter the time of year!
